Dr Mainwaring is an internationally trained, academic, highly published former medical oncologist who now leads a disruptive nanobiotechnology company to disrupt healthcare. Dr Mainwaring undertook his general medical and oncology training from 1989 to 1994 at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and Royal North Shore Hospitals in Sydney. He then moved to the UK where he undertook further medical oncology training from 1994 to 1999 at the Royal Marsden NHS Trust in London, gaining his UK certification. At the same time Dr Mainwaring undertook an M.D. in breast cancer and cell death biology in the laboratory of Professor Mitch Dowsett at the Institute of Cancer Research. He was appointed to a consultant position at Guy’s, King’s and St Thomas’ NHS Trusts. During this time, he established multidisciplinary teams comprising of sub-specialities in medical, clinical, palliative care, surgical oncologists,chemotherapy nursing teams and research nurse specialists. In 2003 Dr Mainwaring moved with his family back to Australia to commence his role as Director of Medical Oncology at the Mater Adult Hospital, South Brisbane. During this time, he was heavily involved in establishing translational molecular pathology and immunotherapy research teams with Prof Deon Venter and Prof Derek Hart,respectively. He collaborated with basic researchers at the Mater Medical Research Institute.
He led clinical trials in breast, ovarian,prostate and renal cell cancers and with this interest in clinical research has over 100 publications in the New England Journal of Medicine, Lancet, Lancet Oncology, Journal of Clinical Oncology etc (CV) with an i10-index of 83. He had a formal Adjunct Associate Professor appointment with the Centre for Personalised NanoMedicine at the Australian Institute for Bioengineering and Nanotechnology, University of Queensland . He is involved establishing an advanced molecular lab in TMSS Bogura.
